High Paying Jobs in Kenya.
69There is no doubt that every young graduate
aspires to reach the pinnacle of his career sometime in the future.Granted, all
of us start at the same level upon graduation from college/University.However,
as it turns out, some people rise fast up the corporate ladder while others
stay in the same professional level for years if not decades. So, what is it
that makes all the difference when it comes to career success. It must be
remembered the really high paying jobs are in the middle to senior management.
That is where the salary levels really begin to have wide disparities. Some
Kenyan CEOs reportedly make at least a million shillings per month in salary,
not including the bonuses.
Of course, the first attribute that an ambitious Kenyan professional needs to
have is to have a passion for results. Results come about as a result of
initiative, innovativeness, motivation and of course talent. Just at look at
the case of Mr. Michael Joseph, the CEO of safaricom. Many pundits rightly
argue that he is the force behind the phenomenal success of safaricom. With
only about a billion shillings of start up capital, he has been able to grow
the company to at a market capitalization of at least 200 billion shillings.
The other remarkable star has been Equity Bank CEO Mr.james Mwangi who has
helped the bank grow in lips and bounds.Surely, which shareholder wouldn't want
to pay such CEOs astronomical salaries?
The other major factor is of course where you went to school. Invoking the name
of a reputed international University in your CV is sure going to increase the
chances of you securing that coveted high paying job. Think of Mugo Kibati for
example, former CEO of East African cables and currently the director of the Kenya vision
2030 secretariat. With a degree from MIT, it was almost a guarantee that he
would be appointed the CEO at both institutions.Adan Mohamed, CEO of Barclays
Bank Kenya, with an MBA
degree from Harvard
Business School,
is also another example.
